Time to Ratify: Your Voice Matters in the Final Step

After months of dedicated effort, challenging negotiations, and unwavering unity, we are proud to announce that we have reached a significant milestone in our campaign to secure a fair contract for the dedicated employees of the City of San Jose. It's time to ratify the contract, and your voice is the deciding role in determining the outcome.

Our bargaining team has fought tirelessly to bring you the best possible deal that addresses critical issues and advances our shared goals. We are pleased to present this agreement to you for ratification, as the bargaining team unanimously recommends a "Yes" vote. This is a pivotal moment, and your participation is essential in finalizing the terms that will shape our collective future. You can view the full ratification document here.

HISTORIC AGREEMENT REACHED - STRIKE AVERTED

This contract represents the most significant economic wins we’ve achieved in the history of our Union. In addition to a great contract, we strengthened our Union in the process. Union members all over the City know now what is possible. They know the importance of collective action and the importance of staying engaged with the Union. A stronger Union will pay dividends for years to come.

No Deal From Thursday Mediation, Strike Looming but More Mediation Scheduled

Thursday, we engaged in discussions with the City and the state mediator, and while good progress was made, we, unfortunately, have not yet reached an agreement.

Encouragingly, the City finally demonstrated movement toward our position, signaling that our collective efforts are making a difference. However, it's important to note that this movement was not a step all the way toward the middle ground we've been seeking from them. As a result, we were unable to accept the offer presented to us. City administrators continue to plant poison pills within the agreement and leave out key tenets.

The good news is that we are getting closer, and this progress can be attributed to our unwavering determination and the preparations we've made for a possible strike. Our commitment to securing a fair contract and "staffing up San Jose" is stronger than ever, and we are confident that our persistence will lead to winning for us and for the public services we deliver to our community.

STRIKE RESULTS ARE IN - AND IT COULD NOT BE CLEARER

On Monday morning, the Union made it clear to the City that the strike will begin on Tuesday, at 06:00 AM, for an initial three-day period ending on Friday, August 18th, at 5:59 AM. For shift workers, no one will leave work or report to work mid-shift (more details to come for people working swing and night shifts).

Everyone must plan to attend one of the daily picket locations each day. There are a few different options for each day. Day one is a more extended day. The remaining two days will be shorter in length.

CALL FOR A STRIKE VOTE!

For months, we have been calling for a fair contract that restores the City of San Jose as a competitive employer of choice and addresses the urgent staffing crisis eroding the delivery of high-quality public services to our community. Despite our efforts, the Mayor and some city council members have been reluctant to tackle the issue of understaffing, leaving us with no choice but to take a stand for each other and our community…
